The throttle position sensor TPS is part of your vehicle's fuel management system and helps ensure that the correct mixture of air and fuel is delivered to your engine. The TPS provides the most direct signal to the fuel injection system of what power demands are being made by the engine. The TPS signal is continually measured and combined many times per second with other data such as air temperature, engine RPM, air mass flow, and how quickly the throttle position changes.
The collected data determines precisely how much fuel to inject into the engine at any given moment. Honestly speaking, it is not easy to detect throttle position sensor issues. However, there are specific throttle position sensor symptoms that will ensure you find the culprit. It senses the air, heat, and light, and sends the information to the ECM which adjusts the throttle and fuel supply accordingly. My r6 was laid up for the winter when I started it a couple of weeks ago once it was warm it would not idle it just cut out I have had a recall from yamaha for air filter fixings but nothing about TPS I have spoken to two yam dealers who both said that this recall did not affect the r6 the problem has corrected itself but after 3month lay up there should be no problems with idle it is an 06 bike will wait and see what happens but it is a bit worrying.

No matter what Yamaha are saying. Dealer should have all the affected VIN numbers on computer. The problem seems to start around the ml mark and in some cases gets worse as the TPS becomes more worn. There seems to be a lot of confusion about which bikes are actualy on this recall around the world and this is what some of us are trying to clarify as Yamaha themselves were not very clear on the subject in the press reports last October.
Plus of course if you are the second or third owner and not registered with Yamaha as the new owner you would not even get your recall notice letter.

The Problem: Yam FZ6N dropped it about a month back, nothing serious just an balance issue, but since then have had an occasional problem with idling and low speed.
The bike usually idles at aboutwill now idle occassionaly at about or under; ie it has a tendancy to cut out at the most inappropiate moments, like low speed lane splitting or waiting at the lights. On the trips where the bike is misbehaving it seems to be running a little rough, normally the engine warning light also comes on. Now the quick and easy fix has been to turn off the ignition and turn it back on, and everything seems hunky-dorey. No immediate causes spring to my mind since your bike is EFI.
Does it use a throttle position sensor TPS? This may have been knocked in your fall and could cause hunting at idle, but turning the ignition on and off wouldn't cure this. If you're certain that turning the ignition on and off does fix it, then it's obviously related to the ecu.

Does it come back and drop away, so it feels like you are on a rodeo bull? I also had to have some throttlewhen stopped at lights. The problem may be with your carbs, they may need balancing. When I had that problem I was switching between 2 and 4 cylinders, hence the bucking effect. The fz6 doesn't have carbs, its fuel injected. The engine may be generating a weak spark, hence the low idling rpm.
This could be related to a dodgy rectifier or coil. As soon as that check engine light comes on, I'd be taking it to a dealer. This doesn't sound like the sort of problem that can be easily diagnosed. I'd be guessing a fuel line or fuel pump.
One may have been dislodged in the fall. Just for those interested, the fault turns out to be a faulty throttle postion sensor, Yamaha knows the problem but is doing nothing about it [-X.R6 idle issues
The problem is a little mostiure getting into the resistive sensor causing false readings. Appears as an intermittent fault, that puts a high petrol content into the cylinders. Once the fault appears the only way to get rid of it is to kill the ignition and restart. When i'm riding normal at my own pace the bike runs fine, but when i'm instructing holding a constant speed the bikes juddering as if i keep reving the throttle. I was convinced it was the TPS so tonight i put a meter on the sensor to see what ohms im getting. The info i have says i should see k ohms on the sensor it's self but i readand when its plugged in 0.
I loosened off the pins to adjust it to see if i could get it to the 0. I've got hold of some new throttle bodies complete with sensors which I will put on tonight and hopefully this will cure it. Throttle servo motor on the way out is usually what causes this, seen it a few times and generally does not throw up a fault code. You can post now and register later.
